Years ago, in the heart of Umbria, I discovered a Medieval hamlet of rare beauty: Postignano On the slope of a wooded hill, medieval houses stand out, giving a sense of momentum reinforced by the beautiful watchtower. As I admire the village, I feel the millennia of urban planning wisdom: the terracing, the natural stone masonry, the compact, defensive structure. The Matacena family has rescued this urban jewel from neglect, restoring it after recent earthquakes and returning it to beauty lovers and connoisseurs. Today, Postignano is returning to its social and economic function in the Valnerina: it offers residences and an albergo diffuso from which to explore a territory that is intact and spectacular in terms of biodiversity and culture. It also aims to be a champion of sustainability in its broadest sense: an ambassador of rural tradition, craftsmanship, construction techniques, the restoration of ancient pictorial treasures, an exhibition area to communicate territorial identity, the exaltation of food and wine culture, and the transmission of the civilisation of hospitality and culture through international events. This is the ideal context for the first edition of the 2024 Music Festival, conceived and curated by Maestro Luigi Piovano, which will take place this year from the 1st to the 6th of October in Postignano, including an intense calendar of classical music concerts. Such an event was born with the participation of a whole community of passionate contributors. I would therefore like to thank all those who are and will be part of the organisation, the collaborators and promoters of the birth and development of a new and ambitious musical event in Umbria, one that will spread the art of music and hospitality throughout the world.
Artistic Director
For me, Castello di Postignano is synonymous with Peace, Friendship, Care and… Beauty!
These are the words that bind me to this enchanted place where I will have the honour and pleasure of caring for the artistic direction of the first edition of the Postignano Music Festival.
And the range of musical offerings could only be multifaceted to try and satisfy all tastes.
The collaboration with the Perugia Conservatorio di Musica Morlacchi for the creation of an exclusive piece for solo violin as well as that with the Accademia delle Belle Arti of Naples for the ‘live’ performance of a painting inspired by Musorgsky’s ‘Pictures of an Exhibition’ will surely be two exclusive projects within the Festival.
The Round Tables, curated by Carlo Cavalletti, are an opportunity for the audience to delve in the theory behind the peculiarities of the musical pieces on offer.
I would like to thank Gennaro Matacena and Matteo Scaramella for the opportunity I have been given and all the Artists who will accompany me on this beautiful journey through Music, Art, Stunning Landscapes and… Cuisine.
